The DNC membership has been split on this, and activists are angry.
Perez’s (resolution) was added on Thursday to the docket of proposals to be considered by the DNC’s resolutions committee ahead of an August 22 meeting in San Francisco. While reaffirming Democrats’ commitment to fighting climate change, at the very end of his proposal is a section that suggests the existing debate formats plus the two unofficial climate forums that are already scheduled in September should take the place of a debate:

Trump and Netanyahu just broke the special relationship between America and Israel
The wannabe authoritarian tag-team has committed a reckless, racist,
contemptible act driven by stunningly short-sighted political calculations –
but with fateful repercussions
We view our alliance with Israel as special and inviolable. It is legitimate to ask
whether it deserves reassessment in light of the increasingly authoritarian actions
of its government.
After all, Israel’s prime minister has chosen only to honor our special relationship
with one political party in the U.S and not with the other, to embrace some democratic
values, but not all, to promote our interests some of the time, but not always.
If criticizing the Netanyahu government proves they hate Israel;
then, logically, criticizing the Obama government proves Trump hates America.

Feb: Government Watchdog: Trump’s Trips To Florida (Mar-a-Lago) Costing Taxpayers Millions
A new report from the Government Accountability Office says four such trips early on in Trump’s presidency cost taxpayers $13.6 million, or some $3.4 million each. …
(The report) also found that $60,000 was paid to Mar-a-Lago in expenses for the four trips, most of that for rooms at the resort for Secret Service agents. The report noted, however, that most agents did not stay at Mar-a-Lago.
According to the Washington Post, Trump has taken some 19 trips to Mar-a-Lago during his presidency so far. If the average cost of $3.4 million for the first four trips is extrapolated, that means the president’s vacations have cost taxpayers at least $64.6 million. And that doesn’t count travel to his club in Bedminster, N.J., where Trump goes in the summer.
According to the pool report, Trump started his day at Trump National Golf Club in
Bedminster, NJ. This is Trump’s 224th day at a Trump golf club and 292nd day at a
Trump property as president.

Trump’s large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up – and not getting paid
“Your attendance is not mandatory,” said the rules that one contractor relayed to employees, summarizing points from a memo that Shell sent to union leaders a day ahead of the visit to the $6 billion construction site. But only those who showed up at 7 a.m., scanned their ID cards, and prepared to stand for hours – through lunch but without lunch – would be paid.
The contractor’s talking points, preparing his workers for the event read:
“No yelling, shouting, protesting or anything viewed as resistance will be tolerated at the event. An underlying theme of the event is to promote good will from the unions. Your building trades leaders and jobs stewards have agreed to this.”

…(Netanyahu) may have barred Omar and Tlaib (from entering Israel) partly because Donald Trump asked him to. He may have felt the stunt would appeal to right-wing voters in Israel’s upcoming elections. But he likely also understood that if Omar and Tlaib brought the American media with them to the West Bank, they might begin to puncture the cocoon that he and his American Jewish allies have worked so hard to build.
But when Americans leave this cocoon, the effect is often shattering. The organization Encounter takes American Jewish officials to meet ordinary Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
“After one day on your trip I felt like I had never been to Israel before,” admitted one participant. “And I am considered a professional Israel expert who travels to Israel several times a year.”
When journalists start asking Democratic politicians why they visited Israel without visiting Hebron or Khan al-Ahmar, and why they met Benjamin Netanyahu without meeting Issa Amro or Fadi Quran, then the cocoon will start to crack.
And when Democratic politicians began demanding, by the dozens, to see the things that Omar and Tlaib were planning to see, then the cocoon will fall apart and the American debate over Israel will change.
Israel can bar two members of Congress from seeing the truths it wishes to hide. It cannot bar two hundred. I hope Rashida Tlaib’s grandmother lives to see the day.
